MANASSAS, Va. -- Manassas police are investigating another bank robbery in the city — and they say the same man appears responsible.
A man wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans walked into the Wachovia at the corner of Church Street and Grant Avenue about 3:30 p.m. Monday and demanded money, said Manassas police Sgt. Tim Neumann. He then fled on foot.
Police say he matches the description of the robber in three other bank heists in the Manassas area since Nov. 12.
Police locked the bank’s doors after Monday’s robbery and blocked the driveway and parking lot. Officers searched the area but did not find the culprit.
It’s been less than a month since the last bank robbery in Manassas.
On Dec. 29, a robber hit the Northwest Federal Credit Union at 9730 Liberia Ave. In that case, the thief approached a bank teller and demanded money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber left on foot toward Wellington Road.
Police believe the same man robbed the Synergy One Federal Credit Union off Sudley Manor Drive on Nov. 12 and the United Bank on Liberia Avenue on Nov. 30.
In those robberies, a man with a similar description demanded cash before fleeing on foot.
The robber is described as white, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds.
Last year, the city had 50 reported robberies, 10 less than the year before, according to crime statistics. In Prince William last year, there were 161 reported cases of robbery. In 2008, the county police reported 272 cases of robbery.
The Manassas City Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. The confidential 24-hour tip line is 703-330-0330.
