There is less than 2 weeks to let the Prince William Board of County Supervisors know our vision for the Long Range Land Use Plan for the county.
Crawl and sprawl should no longer be accepted. New development should be on old sites, only, with vegetated parking structures that collect storm water. Walkable communities need to be built with the ability to walk to work, stores, schools and recreation.
A strong economy can be had by designing "green" buildings to house "green" jobs, retail and housing all in the same building in all three phases. These high paying jobs will preserve the beauty of PWC while lowering our taxes. They won't be polluting our water and land.
Don't accept waivers to the Comprehensive Plan without we, the public, knowing about and commenting on it. These waivers allow developers to build something different from what the taxpayers wanted.
Don't allow developers to clear cut our forests, making our waterways vulnerable to storm water runoff pollution.
Developers need to give us 30-year bonds and liability insurance to offset the cost of their possible environmental damage and to pay for building the schools, roads, police and fire departments that will be needed for the houses they build.
A strong Environmental Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan is needed that permanently protects and replaces our forests along all of our creeks, streams and rivers to prevent pollution from entering the Chesapeake Bay.
Stream and native plant mapping is needed for all of our creeks, streams and rivers. Soccer fields should be within walking distance. The Rural Crescent should be permanently protected.
Strong leaders are needed in PWC that will stand up to the developers and put official government action into our Comprehensive Plan that permanently protects our natural resources before they are gone forever.
