GAINESVILLE, Va. -- An FBI employee from Gainesville pleaded to possessing child pornography, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office said today.
Samuel I. Kaplan, 64, of Gainesville, pleaded guilty to the charge late yesterday, prosescutors said.
According to court records, Kaplan was working as an Information Techonology Program Manager at an FBI facility in Chantilly when he was discovered using the FBI’s network “to facilitate sexually explicit communications.”
Investigators from the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General searched Kaplan’s Gainesville home and found between 10 and 20 images of child pornography on his home computer.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initative.
