Gainesville, Va. - An FBI employee from Gainesville pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, a spokesman from the U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Samuel I. Kaplan, 64, of Gainesville, pleaded guilty to the charge late Wednesday. According to court records, Kaplan was working as an Information Technology Program Manager at an FBI facility in Chan-tilly when he was discovered using the FBI's network to send "sexually explicit e-mail mes-sages, including images of nudity."
Investigators later searched Kaplan's Gainesville home and found between 10 and 20 images of child pornography on his home computer.
In interviews with authorities, Kaplan admitted to viewing and saving between 50 to 100 images of child pornography between 2008 and 2009, according to the court documents.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative.
