STAFFORD Va. -- Authorities in Stafford County are trying to identify the body of a woman found along Interstate 95 near Garrisonville on Tuesday.
An autopsy revealed the woman died of a gunshot wound.
An animal control officer found the body in the woods while he was looking for a lost dog, near the southbound ramp off of Va. 610. Investigators think the body was placed there sometime in November or December, said Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Investigators said the woman had well-manicured fingernails and pierced ears. They also said her teeth were in good shape and it appeared she made regular visits to the dentist. The victim was fully clothed, wearing a light blue sweater, in a junior’s size 14 to 16, black Capri pants and gray shoes with no socks, said Kennedy.
“We are hoping a tip will lead to the identity of this victim as well as the individual or individuals who are responsible for her death,” said Stafford County Sheriff Charles E. Jett in a press release. “This young lady is someone’s daughter, relative or perhaps she is even a mother and she deserves to have justice in this case.”
Jett’s department created a flier with the victim’s name and information and distributed it to law enforcement agencies across the state. Anyone with information in this case is encouraged to call the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4450.
Prince William police in January discovered the body of 45-year-old Leonilda Caceras-Camacho, who had been placed in a trash can off Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, also near I-95.
Police allege that her husband Franklin Camacho Jr., 40, of Perth Amboy, N.J., hit her in the head with a hammer, and then drove to Virginia where investigators said Camacho left her dead body behind a Starbucks.
Camacho was arrested the day after the murder, after police stopped him on the New Jersey turnpike on his return trip from Virginia.

Correction: The flier Stafford County investigators issued to Virginia law enforcement agencies about a woman’s body that was found in Garrisonville included a description of the clothes she was wearing when she was believed to have been killed. It did not include her name as was incorrectly reported in Friday’s News & Messenger.
