DALE CITY, Va. - Police charged a trio of men with destruction of property after a night of doughnuts on a school sports field.
Police were called to C.D. Hylton High School on Spriggs Road in Dale City at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a suspicious car on the property. The caller told police that the driver of a car was doing doughnuts -- spinning the car in circles on the field -- and damaging the turf, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
The officer didn't see a car on the field when he arrived, but another officer responding to a different call noticed mud tracks on the street and then followed the trail, said Hernandez.
The trail took the officer about three miles from the school to Charlton Court, off Savannah Drive in Dale City. There, the officer found two cars covered in mud. During an investigation, police determined the identity of those tearing up the turf earlier that night, said Hernandez.
Three men were found in a townhouse on Charlton Court. They were identified as 20-year-old Justin William Hass of Fairfax; 19-year-old Nickolas Michael Ledbetter of 12511 Manchester Way in Lake Ridge and 20-year-old Ryan Lamar Hunt of 404 N. Pearl Avenue in Spencerville, Ohio, Hernandez said. All were charged with felony destruction of property and with trespassing on school property at night.
Hass and Hunt were held on $2,000 bond and Ledbetter was held on $3,000 bond. All three are expected to appear in court April 20.
Police said the men caused more than $1,000 damage to the field.
