Prince William County, Va. - Help the Haitians
The children of the Upper School at Linton Hall School have set up drop boxes for collection of items for Haitian Relief.
The boxes are at Merrifield Garden Center on Wellington Road in Gainesville, PostNet on Sudley Manor Drive in Braemar, Details for the Home in Haymarket and The Stone Center on Va. 28 in Manassas.
The items will be collected through March 15 and will then be sorted and packaged for delivery to the Embassy of Haiti for distribution.
Donated items being collected include baby formula (dry/powder), baby wipes, baby bottles, diapers, baby clothes, toiletries, vitamins, first aid kits, over the counter medicines, socks, blan-kets, mosquito repellent, flashlights, batteries, candles, flip-flops, lightweight jackets and non-perishable food not in cans (seal-packs of tuna or sardines), granola bars --things easy to pack.

Bull Run Library
to hold writers' fair
The Bull Run Regional Library will sponsor a writers' fair March 27 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Representatives from local authors' groups will talk to patrons who are interested in all types of writing, from memoirs to fiction to genealogy.
Adults who enjoy writing and wish to meet other authors can register for the program by calling 703-792-4530. The library is at 8051 Ashton Ave., Manassas.
Dancing the foxtrot
at the Candy Factory
Ballroom dancing is offered the first Sunday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory. Beginners and advanced dances are all welcome. Cost is $15 per person for lesson and dance session a half four before the open dance lesson or $10 for dance session only.
March's lesson is the foxtrot.
Bowl A Thon for SERVE
The 19th annual "Strikes for SERVE" Bowl A Thon will be March 13 at Bowl Amer-ica, 9000 Mathis Ave., Manassas. There are two bowling sessions -- 1 and 4:30 p.m.

Awards are presented to the top fundraising individual and top fundraising team in each ses-sion.
Art society to meet
at Canterbury Woods
The Prince William Art Society will meet March 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Canterbury Woods Com-munity Center, 12184 Chaucer Lane in Lake Ridge.
The society's new president, Phyllis Hambleton, will give a presentation on her artwork, with a special emphasis on copper etching with a short demonstration and a "hands-on" opportunity to try the procedure.
The art society will sell spring-themed note cards soon to fund the Third Annual Jewell Pratt Burns Scholarships for two graduating seniors in the Prince William County Schools.
Scholarships will be awarded in May.

Lifelong Learning meets
The Lifelong Learning Institute, Manassas, will meet on March 24 at 10 a.m. at the Colgan Thea-ter on the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College.
The session will feature a discussion by county leaders on the "Prince William County 2030 Study" that will give the members some idea on the projected growth and improvement over the next two decades.
A reception with the speakers precedes the lecture in the vestibule.
Community band
to play free concert
The Prince William Community Band will give a free concert on March 14 at 3 p.m. at Osbourn Park High School, 8909 Euclid Ave., Manassas, with guest conductor Robert W. Smith.
The band will be playing Symphony #3 "Don Quixote."
Shamrock run
The 11the annual Shamrock 5K Run/1 Mile Run/Walk will be conducted on March 20 at 8:30 a.m. at G. C. Round Elementary School, 10100 Hastings Drive, Manassas.
Cost is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the walk with prices to increase the day of the event.

Saturday night dancing
The annual gala at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory has "Saturday Night Fe-ver" for its theme.
The center will be transformed into Studio 54 with lights, a live DJ and entertainment from the Rooftop Productions.
The event is March 13 from 7 to 11 p.m. and tickets are $90 each or six for $500 and can be ordered on line at www.center-for-the-arts.org or call 703-330-ARTS.
Random Reads group
to air Nora Roberts
The Random Reads Book Discussion Group will meet on March 15 at 1 p.m. to air "Tribute" by the popular and prolific author Nora Roberts.
Registration is not required and attendees are welcome to bring their lunches.
