RICHMOND, Va. -- Troopers handed out more than 7,000 tickets during this weekend’s aggressive driving crackdown on interstates 95 and 81.
According to state police, troopers stopped 1,475 drivers for speeding, 505 for reckless driving, 14 for impaired driving and 174 for seat belt violations on Interstate 95 Saturday and Sunday.
On Interstate 81, 2,061 drivers got tickets for speeding, 212 for reckless driving, six for impaired driving and 136 for no seat belts.
During the two-day initiative, dubbed Operation Air, Land and Speed, there were no fatal traffic crashes reported on either interstate.
