DUMFRIES Va. -- Police are removing orange cones and reopening a portion of U.S. 1 in Dumfries afternoon after a gas leak slowed traffic in the area this morning.
Officials reported the leak about 8 a.m., in the area of the commuter lot at U.S. 1 and Va. 234.
Police closed at least two lanes of traffic in each direction on the four-lane road this morning, in the area of the gas leak. The leak also caused two OmniRide commuter buses to be rerouted around the gas leak.
Gas leak slows traffic in Dumfries
Emergency crews are on the scene of a gas leak in Dumfries that has forced the closure of at least one lane in each direction on U.S. 1.
The leak was reported about 8 a.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Va. 234. Police have been called to the intersection, where the two four-lane roads meet.
Crews from Columbia Gas have been called to the scene and are assessing the situation, said Prince William fire and rescue spokeswoman Kim Hylander.
Multiple businesses and a major commuter lot sit near where the leak was reported.
