MANASSAS PARK, Va. -- Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped one of two charges against a former Manassas Park police officer accused of stealing a Dale City Volunteer Fire Department vehicle.

Travis Mosher, 30, was charged with felony grand larceny of an automobile and misdemeanor petit larceny and appeared in Prince William General District Court Wednesday.

Prosecutors declared the petit larceny charge nolle prosequi, which means they don’t wish to prosecute at this time.

The grand larceny charge was amended to a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

A special prosecutor appointed to Mosher’s case said that if he meets certain conditions, the unauthorized use charge will be dropped when he next appears in court on July 19.

The conditions include completing 100 hours of community service, prosecutors said.

Mosher was accused of stealing a 2005 Ford Expedition that belonged to the Dale City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department during an installation celebration at the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton fire station on F Street on Jan. 16.

The SUV was recovered undamaged a short time later.

Mosher turned himself into police later that night. He resigned his position on the Manassas Park police department after the incident.
