Hundreds of Pokemon trading card game players will gather in Dale City on Saturday to compete for the Virginia State Championships.
Desanto Community Hall at 13511 Hillendale Drive (Dale City Volunteer Fire Department) will host the Pokemon Trading Card Game event that begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues throughout the day.
The event is sponsored by the Pokemon Company International, a worldwide leader in trading card games.
The state tournament offers Pokemon players of all ages the opportunity to compete in an intellectual sport and to test their skills, strategy and creativity.
The state championships is a title event series where participants in each of three age divisions compete to earn Premier Rating points and the honor of taking home the title of being named state champion.
The event is free, open to all players and has no prequalification requirements. Players can compete in the Junior Division (born in 1998 or later); Senior Division (born in 1994-1997); and Master Division (born in 1993) or earlier.
All competitors will receive a Pokemon State Championships promo card while supplies last. First-place winners are awarded a state champion trophy, a prize kit containing a variety of Pokemon merchandise and a $300 travel stipend to attend the National Championships later this year.
The National Championships tournament will be the last title event leading to the Pokemon Trading Card Game's most prominent event of the season -- the prestigious World Championships taking place in August.
