»  Comments | Post a Comment

Prince William County Public Schools was informed today by the Prince William Health Department that an individual at Freedom High School has a confirmed case of tuberculosis (TB). The person is not currently at the school and is receiving treatment.

Freedom officials are notifying parents tonight, March 18, by autodialer. A letter signed by Principal Inez Bryant and Prince William Health Director Dr. Alison Ansher has been posted to the school’s Web site informing the community of the case and announcing steps that will be taken next week. This letter will be distributed to students tomorrow to take home.

On Monday, March 22, health department staff will begin screening students and staff for possible risk of exposure.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that is spread person-to-person through the air. While few cases are reported in the United States annually, tuberculosis is a very common and treatable disease.
