Yet another high-ranking and long-serving Dumfries police officer has been placed on administrative leave.
Sgt. Aracelis "Sally" Marcano Worley, who has been with the department for 22 years, was suspended with pay on Thursday pending an ongoing internal investigation, according to Dumfries Town Manager Kimberly Alexander.
Alexander did not give the reason for Worley's suspension.
Worley is the fourth Dumfries officer to be suspended since mid-March. She is part of the four-member command staff of the department that includes the chief, captain and another sergeant.
Just over a week ago, Capt. Ronald Mackey, a 20-year veteran of the department, was "given a list of administrative charges" and placed on leave with pay.
In mid-March, Police Chief Calvin Johnson and Officer John Chapman were placed on leave with pay.
Johnson, who has been with the department 27 years -- 15 years as chief -- later announced he would retire in August.
Alexander took him off leave, but Johnson chose to use his accrued leave and comp time instead of returning to his duties. His retirement was voluntary and not related to administrative issues, she said.
Chapman, who has been with the department since 2006, heads up the department's Internet crimes against children efforts. He has been involved in the arrest of sexual predators from across the country.
Chapman and Mackey remain suspended.
No administrative charges have been filed against either Chapman or Worley as of Friday, Alexander said.
Investigations into both officers are ongoing.
Alexander said she could not discuss the specific charges filed against Mackey. However, she did say they were policy-related and that, in general, the nature of administrative charges are violations to the department's General Orders.
Dumfries officials will follow the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights in proceeding with the charges.
After Johnson and Chapman were suspended, the Fairfax City Police Department was asked to look into allegations of misconduct.
The Fairfax officers copied the contents of three Dumfries Police Department computers -- the two computers used by all the officers in the department's squad room as well as the laptop from the squad car used by Chapman. This laptop is the same one used by Chapman during his Internet crime investigations.
"I am hoping that the Fairfax investigation will be wrapping up in the next week or two, Alexander said.
In late March, Alexander expanded the probe into the police department by hiring retired Prince William County Police Capt. Robert E. Forker Jr. to conduct separate investigations.
Mackey and Worley were placed on leave as a result of Forker's inquiries. However, Forker's work is not complete.
"[Forker] may be staying on a little longer than we anticipated," Alexander said. "There are so many open issues that he is looking into. Some of them will be wrapped up soon. Others will take a couple of weeks. It's a process. There are a lot of things he is looking at."
