The 37th annual Nokesville Day will be observed Saturday with food, crafts, parade, entertainment, and good old-fashioned fun.
The event, sponsored by the Nokesville Ruritan Club, will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The day's events kick off with breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department.
The highlight of the day, a parade through Nokesville, is slated to start at 11:30 a.m. and feature antique fire trucks, farm machinery, old cars, horses, and the Kena Shriners of Fairfax with their miniature cars.
Word has it that Virginia Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II, one of Nokesville's newest residents, also may show up.
About 45 vendors selling handmade crafts, arts, antiques and home-baked goods will be lined up on Fitzwater Drive throughout the day, too, and lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren.
Other activities include children's events, a tractor show, a fire department demonstration and child ID registration.
Upwards of 3,000 people turn out each year to take in the local festivities.
The Citizens of the Year are Gloria Monroe and Lee Dronsfield, both active in the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and the parade grand marshal is R.B. Thomas Jr., a Ruritan and a senior softball Hall of Famer.
Vendor coordinator Gail Williams, a past president of the Ruritans, said the club sponsors the day "to provide fun for the community and to raise funds for its community betterment projects and scholarships."
