Cuccinelli moves to Prince William

Nokesville, Va. - Everybody in Nokesville may not have heard about the community's newest big name, but one person has taken notice for sure:

"The lawnmower salesman has," state Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II joked this week.

The Republican may need that man's help, too. He and his family recently moved from Fairfax County to 10 acres in Nokesville.

Cuccinelli paid $605,000 for the property April 5, according to Prince William County land records.

Nokesville might not seem like an ideal place to live for someone who works mainly in Richmond, but the attorney general said his new home is 20 minutes closer to the state capital than his former abode.

And it meant his family could stay in Northern Virginia, he said.

"So we're balancing some things there," he said before speaking at an event for the conservative Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance.

Cuccinelli's children, ages 1 to 14, also are fascinated because the Nokesville property backs up to a creek, the father of seven said.

The former state senator has garnered lots of headlines since he was sworn in Jan. 16, most prominently for suing the federal government over the recently approved health care reform law.

He also angered Democrats and liberal activists with a lawsuit over greenhouse-gas regulation, a letter to state colleges telling them to retract policies that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, and a recently scrutinized campaign donation.

But Cuccinelli likely will find lots of support in conservative Nokesville.

To wit: Carl Germain, who attended Monday night's Family Alliance gala, said he's "absolutely" excited about his new neighbor.

"He defends the Constitution," said Germain, who's lived in the area since 2002. "That's about the bottom line to it."
