DUMFRIES, Va. -- A Naval reservist with ties to Dumfries is under investigation for child pornography.
In addition to harboring images of child pornography on his personal computer, investigators say Scottie Lee Martinez may have had sexual relations with at least 4 underage girls, the encounters possibly taking place inside his Dumfries home, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.
More than 3,000 images of child pornography were found on a laptop Martinez purchased two years ago while living with his wife and children in Dumfries, documents state. The address was redacted from court documents.
Of the minors depicted in the sexually explicit photos, 44 were identified to be on the agency's Child Victim's Identification program, court documents state.
Martinez was stationed in Qatar starting last July. While there, another officer saw Martinez sharing the images over an iTunes application while using a public area for reservists to access the Internet while overseas, state court documents.
That officer ordered an investigation, where "thousands of pornographic images and video, several which depicted child pornography and file names which included terms indicative of child pornography" were found on Martinez's personal laptop and iTouch mobile device, court documents state.
Martinez returned home from Qatar in March.
In addition, authorities found 600 images depicting Martinez performing sexual acts with at least four underage girls. The acts are believed to have taken place between 2006 and 2009, court documents state.
One of the victims, who now lives in Florida, says the abuse began when she was 6 years old. She told investigators she too saw child pornography on Martinez's computer while he was forcing her to perform sexual acts with him, court documents state.
Authorities say Martinez began collecting the images in March 2008 and continued to collect them until January, "during the majority of that time period Martinez lived in Dumfries," court documents state.
Martinez has not been indicted, and an investigation is ongoing.
