Cindy Brookshire of Manassas has been selected as Woman of the Year and will be honored along with Grand Marshal RB Thomas Jr. of Nokesville at the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade on Dec. 4.
Both will also be recognized at the Old Town Manassas Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3.
As a community volunteer, Brookshire has helped Manassas win three state and national awards for Neighborhood Improvement Circles (partnering with George Mason University and Unity in the Community) and the Landgreen Street Cleanup (Partnering with Weems Neighborhood Watch and Week of Hope.)
A local resident for almost three decades, Brookshire is an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Manassas.
She has worked for the Prince William Journal, Publishing Partners, Inc., and is currently a contractor producing monthly newsletters for the City of Manassas.
She is an active member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and a member of Leadership Prince William, Class of 2010.
Brookshire also co-presented “Safe and Livable Neighborhoods’ with Patrick Harris of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association and Officer Scott Stallard of the City of Manassas Police Department at the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference in 2008.
In addition, she presented “Connecting Your Community with Neighborhood Improvement Circles” at the National Conference of Neighborhood Concerns in Little Rock, Ark.
