I can’t understand why anyone on Medicare, Social Security, and/or VA medical would vote Republican in the upcoming election. They would be voting against their self-interest, because the Republicans have as a goal privatizing Social Security and the VA medical plans and gutting Medicare.
If the beneficiaries of these programs thought a minute about having their social net and medical care dependent on Wall Street, it might clarify which party best supports their interests.
Also, why would we vote to reinstate the party whose previous policies of deregulation and tax breaks for the wealthy brought us to the financial situation we are in? It didn’t work then, and it won’t work now.
I’m amazed to hear people, who are on Medicare and Social Security, who got their home with a FHA or VA loan, who drive on interstate highways funded by the federal government, who paid for college with government-funded student loans, and who receive many other government benefits, say: I want the government off my back.
My advice to these hypocrites is: If you don’t want government, move to Somalia.
