Pit bull euthanized following attack

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A pit bull was destroyed after it attacked four people in less than two weeks, police said.

The dog’s latest victim was a 51-year-old caretaker at the Prince William Animal Shelter off Va. 234 in Independent Hill.

The dog was being walked outside the shelter Wednesday to be returned to its owner, when it suddenly mauled the handler, inflicting major injuries on her leg and foot, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The caretaker was taken to a local hospital, treated and released, said Perok.
The dog showed no signs of aggression immediately prior to the attack.

The pit bull was brought to the shelter and had been quarantined there for the past 11 days, having attacked three members of the owner’s family.

The dog was euthanized because of its aggressive and unpredictable nature, said Perok.
The caretaker is at home recovering.
