Roughly 200 people showed up at the Manassas City Hall on Tuesday and most of them were there to protest KK Temptations, an adult novelty store set to open on Battle Street.
Manassas resident Sue Reynolds echoed the sentiment of most of the people there, saying that such a store would not fit the character of Manassas.
"I don't feel like a porn shop or any kind of shop that's going to be limited to adults only needs to be in Old Town Manassas," she said.
Steve Thomas said the shop would be "entirely inappropriate in Old Town."
"This is supposed to be an area where families can come," the Manassas man said."I don't approve of such businesses and I certainly don't approve of them in Old Town."
Many said that the store would draw undesirable clientele and and make downtown Manassas a dangerous place that would be detrimental to children.
"I don't think we need this immorality in our community where there are children. This is a community city. It's not like downtown Fairfax," said Manassas resident Maryanne Brown.
Kendall Alexander, representing the minority, said she looked forward to having the store in Old Town.
She said she and her husband of eight years often visit similar stores and went on to add that they see people similar to themselves shopping in adult stores.
"I'm the face that you're so scared of," the 41-year-old Alexander told the crowd gathered in the council chambers.
