Haymarket suicide victim found in Occoquan Reservoir

Police have identified a Haymarket man found near the Merchants Mill neighborhood of Lake Ridge Friday night after he apparently committed suicide, police said.

David Wayne Baumgardner, 41, told family that he was in the area of Deepford Drive and Oakwood Drive at 7:47 p.m. and was suicidal, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Officers found Baumgardner’s car unoccupied in the area.

This prompted law enforcement to call in Prince William K-9 units and a Fairfax County police helicopter to search the area, Perok said.

Baumgardner was found dead in nearby in the Occoquan reservoir from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after an extensive search, Perok said.
