Richard H. “Dick” Black has bested John T. Stirrup and Robert S. FtizSimmonds in the Republican primary for the 13th Virginia Senate seat which encompasses parts of Prince William and Loudoun counties, according to unofficial results from the Virginia State board of elections.
Black won about about 39 percent of the vote with all of the 52 precincts reporting.
Black who describes himself on his Vote-Va.org as a staunch fiscal and social conservative, could not be reached for comment.
Black lives in Leesburg with his wife Barbara his wife of 42 years. They have three children and nine grandchildren
Black, enlisted in the Marines in 1963 and became a second lieutenant by age 21. He flew 269 combat helicopter missions in Vietnam.
Black graduated with honors from the University of Florida’s School of Business in 1973 and earned a law degree in 1976, according to the website.
After practicing law in Florida for 10 years, Black accepted a commission the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Black was later appointed by the Judge Advocat General of the Army to head the legal office at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He supervised 40 attorneys at Ft. Lewis, Washington.
Black retired as a colonel.
Black was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in February 1998.
