A magnitude 4.5 aftershock to Tuesday's earthquake rattled residents at 1:07 a.m. Thursday.
The aftershock was centered once again near Mineral in Louisa County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was 3.1 miles underground and marked the biggest aftershock to hit since Tuesday's 1:51 p.m. magnitude 5.8 temblor.
Houses shook and rumbled, startling many residents awake and jarring already jittery nerves.
There were no immediate reports of any new damage in the area. Prince William County officials say everyone should be on the alert after the recent earthquakes for gas and water leaks and structural damage to their homes and businesses.
