Fairfax County police may have a lead as to the whereabouts of a man accused of being involved in at least one of six assaults on women as they shopped in Fairfax County stores since February.
Johnny D. Guillen Pimentel—the man who detectives connected in September to the assault—could be in Peru, according to Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.
In all of the cases, the attacker distracted young women as they shopped and then slashed them on the buttocks. The attacks happened at the Marshall's department store in the Greenbriar shopping center, the T.J. Maxx at Fairfax Towne Center, the H&M at Tysons Corner Mall and the Ann Taylor store, Champs and Forever XXI, all at Fair Oaks mall.
The attacks began in Fairfax County in February and continued through July.
Although officials could not say when or how they determined Pimentel’s potential whereabouts, they are still hopeful to find him.
“As far as I know, we do have an open communications channel with officials in Peru,” Caldwell said.
She could not comment on a possible extradition or any other next steps her department may take.
Caldwell did say she has not heard of Pimentel’s alleged assaults continuing in Peru.
Officials did not disclose Pimentel’s charges, or which assault he was connected to.
