WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Woodbridge resident Eric Miller is the winner of Bib #1775 and a new pair of Brooks running shoes for participating in the Crossroads 17.75K online registration bonanza. Miller was randomly selected from those who registered on July 19.
Because the Crossroads 17.75K distance corresponds with the year the U.S. Marine Corps was founded, wearing Bib #1775 is something Miller is thrilled to do.
"It's a huge honor to wear the bib and registering for Crossroads is something I've been meaning to do so this contest just gave me the boost I needed to register," Miller says. "I also never win anything, so it's pretty exciting."
Miller served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps working as a small computer systems specialist from 1994 to 1998. Currently, he is employed in Professional Services for EMC Federal in Tysons. The 34-year-old runner completed the 2010 Crossroads 17.75K in 1:43:14 and credits the 2010 event for getting him into running.
"I had run a couple of 5Ks in the past, but Crossroads was my first bigger race," says Miller. "It was exhilarating ... the whole atmosphere was wonderful from the hills on the course to finishing at the museum and everything that went along with it was a blast."
In September, Miller will wear Bib #1775 when he crosses the Crossroads 17.75K finish at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Miller also is registered to run his first marathon at the 36th Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 30.
The Crossroads 17.75K is part of the MCM Event Series held annually March through November. Crossroads 17.75K is an 11.03-mile event that takes runners from the start adjacent to Route 234 in Prince William County through the twists and turns of Prince William Forest Park to the spectacular finish at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle.
The offer to win the coveted 1775 runner's bib and Brooks shoes ended on July 19, but online registration for the Crossroads 17.75K remains available to all runners ages 10 and above at www.marinemarathon.com.
