A boat went up in flames late Friday at Hoffmaster’s Marine on Swan Point Road in Woodbridge, killing a family pet.
Firefighters were called to the marina off Va. 123 along the Occoquan River at 9:33 p.m. where they found a boat showing heavy fire from the port side to the deck, said Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department spokeswoman Rebecca Barnes.
“The fire had also spread to the canopy covering the dock, melting a hole in the aluminum roof,” Barnes said in a statement.
Fire crews positioned themselves to protect other boats at the marina and quickly attacked the fire while an OWL fire boat checked the water for any leaking hazardous materials.
Barnes said flames were contained to the boat on fire, with some minor heat damage to a second boat.
Firefighters had the flames under control within 12 minutes, she said.
No one was injured in the fire, but the boat occupant’s dog was killed in the blaze.
The Prince William County fire marshal’s office is investigating what sparked the fire.
