Woodbridge resident Tito Munoz has taken the first steps to run for the Virginia’s 36th District Senate seat.
According to Prince William County Registrar’s office, Munoz has submitted a list of signatures to the registrar’s office for a courtesy review.
Munoz still needs to submit a ballot with 250 signatures of registered voters in his district, a declaration of candidacy and a filing fee receipt for $360 to the Republican Party Legislative District Chairman’s office, said chair Paul Ruecker. The deadline to submit all of this information is Wednesday.
Munoz has formed a political action committee called Munoz For Senate and is listed on Virginia Public Access Project website as a candidate. When reached Friday morning, Munoz immediately told the News & Messenger to “call back later.”
Munoz created the Conservative Hispanic Coalition in Northern Virginia, supports the Tea Party movement is the host of “America Eres TU” or “America Is You” on Radio WURA 920AM in Quantico.
He became famous in 2008 as “Tito the Builder” during the John McCain-Sarah Palin presidential election campaign. Munoz will be opposed by former Virginia Delegate Jeff Frederick in a primary.
Democrat Linda T. “Toddy” Puller of Fairfax County has held the seat since 1999 and is running for re-election.
