State police have charged a Fredericksburg man in connection with a head-on crash Saturday night that injured three people at mile marker 150 on Interstate 95.
Police said Segrio A. Alvarenga-Vasquez, 34, was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer southbound in the northbound lanes near Va. 619 when it struck a 1996 Volvo head on, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller.
The accident sent the driver of the Volvo and two passengers to area hospitals, Geller said.
Police said Alvarenga-Vasquez left the accident on foot and was later found walking along I-95 near the 152 mile marker toward Va. 234 where he was arrested without incident.
Police charged Alvarenga-Vasquez with being drunk in public, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. He was also charged for failing to have a valid driver’s license, failing to have insurance and for failing to wear a seat belt. He was transported to the Prince William Regional jail, Geller said.
The driver of the Volvo -- Alison Conway, 48, of Maryland, and her daughter, Amanda Conway, 19, of Maryland -- were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Alison Conway’s mother, Geraldine Orrell, 78, of Maryland, was flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
All three in the Volvo were wearing seat belts.
