An ex-Marine accused of firing shots at the Pentagon and Marine Corps museum at Quantico has pleaded guilty to unrelated larceny charges and been sentenced to six months in jail.
Yonathan Melaku of Alexandria was charged in June in federal court with a series of overnight shootings at military-related targets in northern Virginia.
But that case has been on hold while he's awaited trial in Loudoun County on a series of vehicle break-ins. He also faced a charge from an alleged escape attempt at the county jail.
Loudoun County prosecutor Jim Plowman said the six-month jail term from Monday's guilty plea is longer than sentencing guidelines. Because of time served, Plowman expects federal marshals will pick up Melaku in coming weeks so he can answer the federal charges.
