Bealeton man killed in Opal accident

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A 91-year-old Bealeton man was killed in an accident in Opal Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Fauquier Sheriff’s office, Carl Elwood Dulaney was going eastbound on O’Keefe Rd. at 5 p.m. when he went through the intersection at U.S. 29. Officials say he did not have the right of way.

John Flemming, 44 of Culpeper, was headed southbound on U.S. 29 in a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo and tried to move to the right lane to avoid Dulaney’s 2004 Buick, however, the Rodeo struck the driver’s door.

Dulaney died at the scene, and a passenger in his car was taken by helicopter to the hospital.

Flemming was transported to the hospital with what officials describe as non-life threatening injuries.

Southbound U.S. 29 near the intersection was closed for about 2 hours.
