Police say Robert Leroy Reid tried unsuccessfully to rob a Suntrust bank on Sudley Road Wednesday afternoon, then went across the street to visit a family member at Prince William Hospital.

But an officer working a security detail at the hospital recgonized him from the lookout, and Reid was quickly arrested, said Manassas police Sgt. Eddie Rivera.

The robbery attempt happened at 2:45 p.m. at the Suntrust branch at 8751 Sudley Road. Police said the robber walked in and "attempted to rob the bank, with negative results."

A short time later, the officer noticed Reid at Prince William Hospital, less than half a mile away.

He was soon charged with attempted bank robbery, Rivera said.

Reid, 30, of 7611 Yellow Lilly Drive, Apt. 4 is being held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail. A court date is set for March 15.
