Fifteen men and woman received promotions from the Prince William police department Friday at a ceremony at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building in Woodbridge, officials said.
Among those promoted were:
» Capt. Jay Lanham, a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Virginia Commonwealth University and Fairmont State University, was promoted to the rank of major and will serve as the assistant chief for operations.
» Lt. Heidi B. Braun, a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Leading, Educating and Developing program at the University of Virginia, was promoted to captain and will be the western district commander.
» Lt. Dawn M. Harman, a graduate of West Virginia University, George Mason University, the West Point Leadership Course and the LEAD program at the University of Virginia, and a current student of the Professional Executive Leadership School at the University of Richmond, is now a captain. She continues in her role as director of the animal control bureau.
» 1st. Sgt. Leon C. Black Jr., who served in the Marine Corps and has completed coursework in liberal arts and the administration of justice, is now a lieutenant and is the new patrol watch commander for the department’s “E” squad on the western district.
» 1st. Sgt. Jacques J. Poirier, a graduate of George Mason University, was promoted to lieutenant and will serve as the patrol watch commander for the “F” squad on the western district.
» Sgt. David L. Burghart was promotedtotherankoffirstsergeant. A graduate of Radford University, the West Point Leadership Course, and Northern Virginia and Germanna community colleges, Burghart is assigned to the “B” squad on the eastern district.
» Sgt. Brandan R. Dudley, a graduate of Northern Virginia Community College and the West Point Leadership Course, was promoted to first sergeant and is assigned to the internal affairs bureau.
» Sgt. Michael A. Fernald, a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York and the West Point Leadership Course, was promoted to first sergeant and continues his position as a supervisor on the violent crimes bureau’s robbery and homicide unit.
» Officer Gregory L. Moore, who served in the Navy and was a graduate of Fauquier High School, is now a sergeant and will be assigned to the “D” squad in the western district.
» Officer Edward Petke Jr. was promoted to sergeant. He has completed undergraduate coursework in general studies and criminal justice.
» Tami T. Turner, whose former position was administrative assistant III, was promoted in November to the position of administrative support coordinator I and is now providing administrative support to the assistant chief of police, operations.
» In the Public Safety Communications center, which handles police dispatching for Prince William, as well as fire and rescue calls for Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park, Jennifer D. Bradley was promoted to the rank of telecommunicator IV, officials said. Michelle L. Fridley, Nicole C. MacDonald and Nicole Shelton were promoted to the position of telecommunicator III.
