Police are looking for a 19-year-old man following a series of fights after Friday night’s Gar-Field-Hylton basketball game ultimately led to the shooting of an “uninvolved” Dumfries woman.
Police said it started with a large fight at the season-ender game between Gar-Field and Hylton high schools. Police broke up “several disorderly crowds” at Gar-Field, but were soon called across Smoketown Road to Potomac Mills mall, where officers had to break up more rowdy groups.
“Several officers had to be called in to handle these incidents which were ultimately dispersed without any injuries reported or arrests made,” said Prince William County police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
At 10:44 p.m., police were called to Old Triangle Road and Sigel Court in Dumfries for a shooting. Perok said two groups of teens involved in the earlier fights met again at Old Triangle and Heth Court and began fighting again. One man in the crowd pulled out a gun and fired shots. No one was injured and everyone involved left the scene.
“However, the vehicle with the shooter proceeded to Old Triangle and Sigel Court,” Perok said.
The gunman leaned out of the car window and randomly fired at two women walking down the street, he said. The women did not know the shooter and weren’t involved in the earlier fights.
An 18-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet and treated at an area hospital for a wound to the head. The woman with her was not hurt. The victims and witnesses gave police a description of the car and police soon identified the shooter, Perok said.
Johnnie Pablito Kamara, also known as "Blaze", 19, of no fixed address is wanted on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony and shooting from a vehicle, Perok said.
He is black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Kamara was charged in January 2011 after shots were fired during a gang fight in Dale City. He was charged with gang participation, reckless handling of a firearm and felony destruction of property in that case. It was unclear Saturday if he spent any time in jail.
Anyone with information on Kamara’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 703-792-6500.
