The Manassas City Council and Mayor Harry J. "Hal" Parrish have chosen a new city manager.
John A Budesky, of Mechanicsville, was selected from a pool of 70 candidates representing 23 states as part of a nationwide search, according to a city news release.
"We're excited to welcome John to the City of Manassas...his thoughtful leadership and veteran expertise in government administration, along with his community involvement will be a great benefit to our city," Parrish stated in the release.
"I'm eager to be a part of the City of Manassas and look forward to interacting with its citizens and returning to management at the local level," Budesky stated in the release.
"The City of Manassas team has established a wonderful foundation for the city, I look forward to helping the city move forward with its opportunities and development."
Budesky's first day as city manager will be March 5.
For more than 16 years, Budesky served as a local government administrator in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.
Most recently, Budesky served as the executive director of the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission, an independently appointed state-wide commission with 266 employees and a $50 million operation and $1 billion passive budget.
He has worked as county administrator in New Kent County and as the assistant administrator for the City of Hagerstown, in Maryland.
