The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will be hearing a land use case tonight involving county planning commissioner Austin Haynes and state Del. Jackson H. Miller.
Miller, who currently owns a four-acre parcel off Bristow Road just west of the Edward Kelly Leadership Center, is trying to get it rezoned for residential development. The land, known as Wolf Run, is currently zoned agricultural.
Miller wants to develop the land for up to 11 single family homes, according to county documents. The Planning Commission voted to recommend denial on Jan. 18 with Haynes – the former property owner and principal broker for Christopher Real Estate – recusing himself from the vote.
The county planning staff also recommended denial, citing concerns with density. County staff also said developing the area for homes would be inconsistent with the land’s long-range land use designation of flexible employment center.
Miller purchased the land in 2006 from Haynes and former Manassas City Councilman Steven S. Smith for $460,000. The land was assessed at $118,500 as of Jan. 1, 2011.
