A Nokesville-area man faces copper theft charges Saturday after police said he ran from the scene of a crash on Friday.
A homeowner in the 11200 block of Reid Lane, Nokesville, told police he found two people he did not know at his home removing copper wire, valued at $12,000, at 1 p.m., Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
The suspects—later identified as Joshua Ross Quillen and a 16-year-old boy—caused $1,000 to the victim’s property, according to police.
They drove away, but the victim followed the suspects in another car, police said.
The car, which police believe was driven by the teen, crashed into a tree near Morla Lane, Nokesville area, police said.
The teen stayed at the crash scene and was detained without incident. His name was not released. Quillen ran away, Perok said.
Police used a canine unit and a helicopter to search for Quillen. They did not find him but did find the stolen copper wire.
Police found Quillen at a home on Fitzwater Drive, Nokesville area, on Saturday and arrested him without incident.
Quillen, 24, of 14016 Fitzwater Drive, was charged with grand larceny, possession with intent to sell stolen property, trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and conspiracy to commit a larceny, Perok said.
His court date and bond information was unavailable.
Police are currently pending charges against the teen.
