No write-in votes allowed in primary election

»  Comments | Post a Comment

People planning to vote in Virginia in Super Tuesday’s Presidential Primary will only have two choices.

Just two candidates, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney met the requirements to be on the ballot on March 6.

Voter choice will be limited to Romney or Paul because Virginia law doesn’t allow for write-in votes in primary elections, so write-ins will not be counted, according to a news release from the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., but voters should know that due to recent redistricting, their polling places may have changed since the last time they voted, the release stated.

Voters who are unsure of where to vote  should call their local registrar or check the State Board of Elections website at sbe.virginia.gov.

The registrar’s number in Prince William County is 703-792-6470. In Manassas, call 703-257-6470. The Manassas Park registrar’s number is 703-335-8806.

Senior reporter Keith Walker can be reached at 703-369-6751.
