A Manassas resident told police Friday she fell victim to a telephone scam last month, police said.
The victim told police a man identifying himself as Richard Green called her on Dec. 23 and told her she won a lottery containing “a large amount of money,” Manassas police Sgt. Eddie Rivera said.
The victim, who said Green was “very convincing,” gave Green personal credit card information and an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.
Police are still investigating the crime.
They urge residents to contact authorities if they are in a similar situation and are asked to send money in order to collect apparent winnings.
Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330. Callers do not have to give their names or testify in court and may receive a reward of up to $1,000 for information that results in an arrest.
