There’s a lot of buzz on our Facebook page about a  proposal by Democratic Del. David Englin of Alexandria to study how much revenue Virginia might generate by the selling marijuana through state-run liquor stores. "There are respectable members of society out there, secretly smoking marijuana on the side, and the money that they use to buy that is going to criminals," said Englin. "Seems to me that it'd be a better idea to take that money that's already being spent and use it to benefit the commonwealth." More than 200 readers voted in an InsideNoVa.com poll and about 55 percent supported Englin’s idea. Here’s how the debate played out on Facebook.

Jennifer Gillis We don't need one more reason for people to do more drugs in the name of tax revenue its the dumbest idea ever.

Kelly Thompson I work for ABC and I think because they have done good at controlling alcohol (which does more damage to the body) they should consider it! I think it would be a smart move!

Jason Seiler Imagine the profits if they sold other illegal drugs, too! Junkies could get their cocaine, crystal meth, weed, and heroin all in a one-stop shop. The store could even offer clean needles at a discounted price. Why have concerns about the reasons these drugs are illegal when a profit can be made?!

Terry Mack Control it like alcohol. Tax the heck out of it. Install lots of security cameras.

Ronald Cooper What an idiot! Horrible idea. From someone who has supervised a large workforce, I have seen the harm. Constant pot use equals a null/void person, employee and citizen.

Anita Brown Hamilton Tax it, regulate it, get it out of the court system.

Richard Dossel Listen we already have enough problems with drinking & driving and now you want include pot. Get real!

Lindsay Foster I don't think it will ever pass. California has been trying to legalize pot for years and can only get it legalized for medicinal purposes.

Keith Barrack I don’t see it happening even though I think it should and makes perfect sense for the "commonwealth." But therein lies the problem. Today, if a dealer sells marijuana and gets busted, they can repo all of your personal property. That is far more valuable than the amounts of confiscated pot. Then they can turn around and auction off the personal property, which doesn't go to the "commonwealth." The people profiting most don’t really want to share that wealth.

Jonathan Adcock Oh man, and with Burger King delivering now, it'd be a golden age!
