A Woodbridge man faces felony charges after deputies said he ran away from the scene of a crash and from authorities in Stafford County on Jan. 21.
Deputies accuse Allen Eugene Stone of being involved in a crash with his Cadillac Escalade and an Acura at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Stafford Market Place, Garrisonville, at 11:35 p.m., according to Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Stone’s Escalade was found on the median of Garrisonville Road. Deputies blocked both west and eastbound lanes of the road.
The driver of the Acura sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries, according to deputies.
While the deputy was relaying incident information to dispatchers, he reportedly saw Stone walking in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo bank located across the street from the Stafford Market Place shopping center, off of Salisbury Drive, Kennedy said.
Witnesses to the crash told the deputy that Stone ran away from the crash scene, and they confirmed the man in the bank parking lot was the same person, deputies said.
The deputy then ran across Garrisonville Road in pursuit of Stone, telling him to stop, authorities said.
Stone apparently refused to stop.
While chasing Stone, the deputy saw another person running beside him.
“He advised the citizen to return to the scene of the accident,” Kennedy said of the deputy. “At that point, [the man] told him he was a retired law enforcement officer.”
The man, and the deputy, continued to chase Stone and, with the help of a second deputy, apprehended him.
While searching Stone, officials reportedly found a baggie of a rock-like substance which later tested positive for cocaine, Kennedy said.
Deputies said that Stone was “highly impaired” and “incapable of focusing” when in contact with deputies.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital to ensure he was okay, Kennedy said.
Stone, 26, of Chesapeake Drive, was charged with felony hit and run, possession of a schedule I or II narcotic [cocaine], driving under the influence of drugs, and resisting arrest, Kennedy said.
He was held without bond, and has a court date of March 29.
