The News & Messenger and InsideNoVA.com requested public salary information on all employees in Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park through the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and compiled a database of the information.
When compared with public employees in Fairfax and Loudoun counties, Walts’ 2011-12 annual salary of $260,563 is second only to longtime Fairfax Superintendent Jack Dale’s $302,998 a year. Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick III earns $239,660 a year.
Manassas Public Schools Superintendent Gail Pope earns $182,005 a year while Manassas Park Public Schools Superintendent Bruce McDade makes $175,000 a year.
Prince William County Executive Melissa Peacor is the top earner in the county government with an annual compensation of $213,180. Peacor’s counterpart in Loudoun County, Tim Hemstreet, makes $213,200.26 annually while Fairfax County Executive Anthony H. Griffin makes $244,989.89 a year.
Prince William County’s Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert earns $191,980.88, the second highest salary in the county. Prince William County Attorney Angela Horan makes $188,190.
Manassas City Manager Lawrence Hughes earns $174,426.93 while Manassas Park City Manager James Zumwalt makes $140,000.
NOTE: Hughes retired on Tuesday and the Manassas City Council voted unanimously to appoint Pat Weiler as interim city manager.
