The Manassas City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Pat Weiler interim city manager.
Weiler, who has been with the city for 16 years, heads the city’s finance and administration department.
Weiler said her team is in place to run the city until the council hires a new city manager to replace Larry Hughes who is retiring.
“I am confident that the team of senior staff will ensure the continued operations of the city in the interim and we will provide all our support to the new city manager to guarantee a smooth transition,” Weiler said in a prepared statement.
Holding the spot should be easy because the city is in good shape thanks to Hughes, Weiler said.
“There’ll be no problems because of Larry,” said Weiler who as finance administration director is responsible for human resources, risk management, information technology, budget, accounting, financial reporting, debt and procurement for the city.
Weiler is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association and is president of the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association.
She is also a member of the International City-County Management Association and is completing the requirements to become a credentialed manager, according to city documents.
Weiler lives in Prince William County with her husband of 34 years, Greg. They have three grown children.
Mayor Harry J. “Hal” Parrish, II, said the council would announce the appointment of the permanent city manager “soon.”
