Welcome to the News & Messenger Newspapers in Education homepage. NIE provides you with valuable information and ways to engage your students with your local newspaper, using either the printed or the electronic edition as teaching tools. You'll find a wealth of resources here and on the pages of our partner, USA Weekend in Education

Teachers order classroom sets of newspapers on days of their choice. They sign up for teaching materials that meet their educational objectives. Every day's newspaper contains stories and information that lend themselves to lessons for all grade levels and subjects. Workshops provide teachers with training in various methods of using the newspaper as an educational resource, at the same time earning them professional development points. In most cases, the newspapers, teaching materials and workshops are provided at no cost to schools.
