Hall wins Holiday Classic

Like Manny Pacquiao's recent TKO boxing victory over Oscar De La Hoya in Las Vegas, Bobby Hall of Landover MD knocked out his opponents in the Holiday Classic Scratch Tournament at Bowl America Manassas on Saturday.

While snow flurries fell in the cold air outside the Center, Bobby Hall was red hot inside the Center averaging an amazing 254 per game and win-ning the event by 46 pins.

The event was a 10 game scratch USBC certified marathon bowled over 20 lanes by some of the best bowlers in the area. The highest raw score determined the winner with cash prizes being won by the top 12 bowlers. One out of every four entries finished in the money.

Bobby Hall is the reigning top ranked bowler in the Nation's Capital Area for the 2007/2008 season. He is tall, athletic and possesses a delivery as smooth as silk.

His 10 game tournament score was 2,543 which included a perfect 300 game. His nearest pursuer was Brian Bennett of Baltimore, MD who finished in second place with a total pinfall of 2,497 - good for a 249 aver-age. Erin Gore of Woodbridge, the only female in the field of 48, toppled 2,326 pins and cashed in ninth place with a 232 average. When asked how she felt about being the only female in the tournament Erin said, "I have bowled against the men for years and feel comfortable competing against them."

More Tournament News

The Sports Plus/Carmen Don bowler's choice pro shop of Alexandria is sponsoring a scratch tournament on December 13th at Bowl America Falls Church. This one, called "The Original" is a USBC certified 6 game scratch event open to all USBC members. The six games will be bowled across 12 lanes and the winner will be determined by straight up total pinfall. Entry fee of $65 pays for prize fees, linage and expenses and all prize fees will be returned 100 percent to the participants. This tournament promises lots of side action featuring an array of pot games, brackets and survival boards. Pre-registration is not necessary. Onsite signups begin at 11:30am and continue up to start of play at 1:00pm.

Ted Gruszkowski Youth Star Award

Nominations are being accepted for the Nation's Capital Area USBC Association's (NCAUS-BCA) Ted Gruszkowski Youth Star Award. Ted Guskowski was an association director and a member of the hall of fame before his passing in July. This award is designed to recognize cur-rent youth members of NCAUSBCA for bowling achievement and/or service to youth bowling.

Nominations may be submitted by any individual in either the Meritorious Service or Bowling Achievement categories. Nominations must contain the full name of the nominee, a one-page biography, and the reason(s) and category for nomination.
