Myrtle Beach stops Potomac's winning ways

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Everything must come to an end and the Potomac Nationals' winning ways did Saturday night.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans pounded Nationals' pitching and took a 12-6 victory thanks to a pair of home runs by Eric Campbell and one by Phillip Britton.
The Nationals collected 13 hits, however starting pitcher Ross Detwiler had control problems walking seven Pelicans in just three innings of work.
Detwiler, however, did not figure in the final decision.
Trailing 3-1, the Nationals tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth.
Myrtle Beach answered and in a big way.
The Pelicans scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, three in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.
Potomac played a littl long ball itself knocking four out of the park.
Leonard Davis collected his 14th of the season, while Francisco Plasencia had his fourth, Brian Peacock his third and Brian Finegan hit his first home run of the season.
Clint Everts took the loss for Potomac, working two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, with four walks and five strikeouts.
Scott Diamond was the winning pitcher for Myrtle Beach, going six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and had six strikeouts.
The Nationals left eight runners on base.
Potomac returns to action this afternoon at 5 p.m., at Kinston.
