2009 Youth Championship Tourney set

The 46th Annual Nation's Capital Area United States Bowling Congress youth division championship tournament will be bowled during February and March. This is the premier youth bowling tournament in the Virginia, Maryland and DC area and hundreds of young bowlers are ready to participate.
The tournament is open to all USBC Youth members participating in a USBC Youth certified league in bowling centers located within the geographic boundaries of the nation's capital area. Bowlers will compete for scholarships and one out of every 10 entrants will be a winner. USBC tournament rules and regulations will govern the tournament.
The tournament will be held at the Bowl America Gaithersburg center beginning February 28 and running each weekend through March 15. There will be a team event, a doubles and singles event and a scratch singles event. There is still time to enter but the February 9, 2009 closing date for entries is rapidly approaching.
Tournament Organization
Teams will consist of 4 bowlers, regardless of age or sex. Teams will be divided into five divisions as follows: Div. 1 (701 and above); Div. 2 (601 - 700); Div. 3 (501 - 600); Div. 4 (401 - 500); and Div. 5 (400 and below).
Doubles event is classified by team average. Doubles teams will consist of 2 bowlers, regardless of age or sex. Doubles will be divided into 5 divisions as follows: Div. 1(351 and above); Div. 2 (301 - 350); Div. 3 (251 - 300); Div. 4 (201 - 250); and Div. 5 (200 and below).
Singles and All Events will be classified by individual average. Singles and All events will be divided into 5 divisions as follows: Div. 1 (176 and above); Div. 2 (151 - 175); Div. 3 (126 - 150); Div. 4 (101 - 125); and Div. 5 (100 and below).
In the Scratch Singles all bowlers will bowl 6 consecutive games. Entrants will bowl along with the Singles and Doubles bowlers. However, the Scratch Singles event is separate from the Singles and Doubles event. Scratch Singles will be divided into 3 divisions as follows: Div. 1 (190 and above); Div. 2 (170 - 189) and Div. 3 (150 - 169).
All bowlers will bowl three games in each event entered. Bowlers MUST enter both singles and doubles to be able to bowl in either one. Singles and Doubles entrants are not required to bowl in the Team event. Team entrants are not required to bowl in the Singles and Doubles event.
This tournament is a handicap tournament with the handicap allowance being 100% and will be figured on the difference between each individual's average and 200. The team handicap for each scheduled match will be the total of the individual handicaps for the four bowlers in the line-up.

Vern Burke Scholarship Youth Tournament ResultsSeveral area youth bowlers participating in the Vern Burke Scholarship Youth Tournament held last November at Bowl America Manassas placed high enough to win scholarships.
John Kolessides from the Bull Run center won the boys scratch division with a three game score of 760 good for a $200 scholarship. In the 150-174 division Chris Ward, Bull Run, placed 3rd with a handicap score of 691, good for a $150 scholarship.
Thomas Hurt of the Manassas center placed 2nd in the 125-149 division and won a $150 scholarship. In the 99 & below division Juliana Garza, Manassas, finished in 5th place and won a $50 scholarship. A total of $3,425 was awarded in scholarship money in this tournament.
