Hill sets freestyle record for Seton

Jameson Hill continued his magical season for the Seton Conquistadores Friday night by notching a record-setting performance in the boys’ 200-yard freestyle.
Hill set the mark while swimming in the Virginia Section of Independent Schools’ state meet at the Freedom Aquatic Center in Manassas.
Hill, who moved to Manassas along with QDD Aquatics coach Rick Benner from Savannah, Ga., broke two records at the National Catholic High School Championships at Villanova University last weekend and was recently named the most valuable swimmer in the Delany Athletic Conference.
Hill won the 200 with a time of 1:38.59, two seconds faster than the all-American consideration time standards and nearly two seconds faster than the state record set in 2001, according to Seton coach Jim Koehr.
After the first night of competition, Seton’s boys’ and girls’ teams stand seventh overall, with the “two big relays”, the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, scheduled to be raced Saturday, Koehr said.
“We lead the Division 2 team race by five points over Roanoke Catholic on the girls side, and we lead Division 2 on the boys’ side with no one even close to us,” Koehr said.
Seton’s girls’ are led by freshman Alex Doonis, who placed third in the 50 freestyle at 24.83 and teammate Lauren Donohoe, who was fifth at 24.93.
Connor Cook, the younger brother of Nevin Cook, former Potomac News and Messenger Swimmer of the Year in 2007, notched his best ever time in the 200 individual medley.
Cook finished eighth with a time of 2:03.04.
