GAR-FIELD (6-3, 4-1) AT WOODBRIDGE (9-0, 5-0) • Tonight, 7 P.M.
Last meeting: Nov. 7, 2008, Woodbridge won 50-21 • Series rivalry: Gar-Field leads 24-19-1
1.Playoff Shuffle
Both Gar-Field and host Woodbridge are looking to secure their spots in the Northwest Region playoffs with a victory tonight.
The Vikings need a win to lock-up a first-round bye as at least the No. 2 seed in Division 6. A loss could push them to third in the division and force them to play next Friday.
The Indians are looking to keep their slim playoff hopes alive by beating the Cardinal District leaders.
2.Aerial Attack
Even with quarterback Frank Buckley’s below-par performance at Osbourn Park last week (7 of 20 for 99 yards, one TD, one INT), the Vikings’ passing game is one of the best in the area.
Buckley is the area-leader with 1,390 yards and a 51.1 completion percentage. He also owns a 4.25 TD-to-INT rate. Darius Smith (27-430, 7 TDs) and Collin Frazer (23-424, 4) are the top two receivers in the area as well.
3. It's Miller Time
Bryce Miller is one of the top six running backs in the area this year with 764 yards on the ground. His yards-per-attempt average (4.7) might be low compared to some of the other backs, but he’s doing most of the scoring for the Indians.
In nine games, Miller has 10 touchdowns (eight rushing, two receiving) and a two-point conversion. The Indians’ defense (11.9 ppg) keeps them in most games, too.
Gar-Field Player to Watch
Jackson is one of four area passers completing at least 50 percent of his throws (100 min.) and has nearly 800 yards through the air.
The 6-foot-2 signal caller was 9 of 17 (52.9 percent) for 152 yards (16.9 per completion) in a crucial 16-14 win over Hylton last week.
Jackson will need to be nearly perfect against one of the area’s best defenses tonight.
Woodbridge Player to Watch
Quarles missed most of the season with a broken left elbow and wrist but has played in the Vikings’ last two games. He caught 10 passes as a part-time offensive player last year and has three catches for 36 yards this season.
He’s also a factor on the Vikings’ defense. A Miami (Ohio) commitment, Quarles was an All-Northwest Region player in 2008 with 68 tackles and six INTs.
