Osbourn defeats Danville

BEALETON – Osbourn’s football team followed a 14-point first quarter with a 14-point second to defeat GW-Danville 56-15 on Saturday in the first round of a Northwest Region Division 5 playoff game.

Osbourn will play at North Stafford on Friday in the second round of the postseason.

The game, played after being postponed by rain on Friday, was controlled by Osbourn from its first offensive possession of the game.

The Eagles marched 67 yards in six plays, ending their drive with a touchdown pass from Vidal Greene to Lucky Whitehead. Kicker Chris Boteler’s extra point gave Osbourn a 7-0 lead.

After forcing George-Washington Danville to a three-and-out on its first possession, Osbourn showcased its ground game. An 11-play drive, kept alive by a fourth down roughing the punter penalty, culminated in Timmy Keith’s 11-yard score.

Timmy’s brother, Thomas, contributed with a 72-yard touchdown run in the second.

Defensive back Robbie Carter gave Osbourn its final first half score by intercepting a Kevin Shuler pass and returning it 46 yards for his team’s fourth touchdown.

GW’s offense, meanwhile, showed signs of life, but Osbourn’s defense halted the offense when it was asked.

GW-Danville was also victimized by a penalty as Devaughn Benion’s 61-yard score was called back by a personal foul.

Tim Moore rushed for 21 yards on the same drive, but the series ended on a sack by Osbourn defensive end Anthony Meek and defensive back Dimitri Mack.

Osbourn continued to take advantage of GW-Danville’s mistakes in the second half.

Greene scored on an eight-yard run, capping a 68-yard drive. The score, coupled with Boteler’s extra point, put Osbourn ahead 35-0.

Receiver Steve Slayton added his name to the scoring by catching an eight-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Keith.

The score came after GW-Danville’s Tim Moore fumbled a snap. Osbourn’s Marcus Mathews recovered at the opposing 27-yard line.

Thomas Keith scored Osbourn’s seventh touchdown on a 41-yard run late in the third.

Another defensive score came early in the fourth quarter. Benion appeared to go in for six, but fumbled. Osbourn defensive back C.J. Jackson scooped up the loose ball and ran 98 yards for a score.

Benion, however, redeemed himself with an 80-yard touchdown run on GW-Danville’s ensuing possession.

Richard Ferrell’s pass to Skylar Daniel was complete for a two-point conversion.

Benion scored again on an 85-yard run for the final score of the game.
