It was all a matter of timing and confidence.
The Forest Park Bruins always had the ability to convert penalty corner attempts. They just had to trust in their collective talent.
With time running out in double overtime Monday night and the prospect of penalty strokes looming, the Bruins finally connected all the dots. Samantha Schottler's entry pass made its way from Raya Nickerson to Melissa Fessenden before the ball finally landed on Blair Lowe's stick.
That was the moment of truth for the Bruins and their senior midfielder, who delivered the game-winning goal with a shot from the right post as Forest Park defeated Osbourn Park, 3-2, in the semifinals of the Cardinal District field hockey tournament.
"We work on penalty corners all the time," Lowe said. "I figured I'd just try to hit it like we do in practice every day. And it went in."
